- I grew up in Pennsylvania. I spent my youth playing in the fields, forests, and creeks next to my dead-end street. I fell in love with a New Yorker, and somehow found myself living, working, and playing in New York City. My outdoor hobbies include orienteering, foraging for edible wild plants in city parks, working in the neighborhood Community Garden, and dodging taxi cabs. I love my wife, even though her idea of outdoor adventure is having breakfast delivered to an overwater bungalow by canoe. And I am thrilled that my two boys will grow up knowing how to read a subway map, and how to turn a compost pile.
